Shannons Nationals Return to Phillip Island GP Circuit for Round 7

Shannons 2014 Strip

The Shannons Australian Motor Racing Nationals returns to Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit for its second visit in 2014, being Round 7 of this year’s nationwide series.

The bonus is that other than the ever developing and exciting Radical Sports Cars, all the categories are different to those seen back in May.

The Radical Sports cars return for Round 5 of 6 with two classes as they did earlier in the year with both 1500cc SR3RS, and the now established V8 engined SR8RX model. With the warmer spring weather we can expect more lap record action than May from the SR8s and SR3s, in action packed 45 minute mini-enduros daily.

Of similar dimensions and looks the Sports Racers (Wests & Stohrs) with their screaming 1000cc motorcycle engines will provide great support to their 1500 and 2700cc Radical cousins.

The V8 Touring Cars should again provide a good class field for Supercar Aficionado’s, with many of these former V8 Supercars bearing their heritage colours in deference to their previous life. These crowd favourites will feature in 2 X 8 lap sprint races and a 12 lap feature, making up the 4th of this year’s 6 round series.

Round 5, the penultimate of the 5 round 2014 Australian Sports Sedan Series with Banks, Ricciardello, Hossack, Tamasi, Bailey and many more will provide plenty of loud record fast action in 3 x9 Lap races during the course of the weekend.

The always popular and entertaining Porsche GT3 Challenge Cup returns for its traditional series final at the Island with their 3 race appearances sure to be hard fought on a circuit tailor made for these exotic German Racers.

The Formula 3 Australian Drivers Championship again a feature of this meeting and despite a lack of familiar names these state of the art open wheelers are sure to set lap times close to the circuit outright record.

The Australian Superkart Championship will have its usual huge field of pocket rockets supporting the Formula 3 open wheelers and often almost matching lap times despite their diminutive proportions and lack of obvious driver protection

Rounding out the program will be the Australian Super 6s(rebranded Saloon Cars) with PIARCs trio of Harley Phelan 9currently 4th placed), local driver, 2008 PIARC Competitor of the Year Andrew Nowland and 2013 revelation newcomer Daniel Johnston who all always feature well at their home circuit
