28th Island Magic This Weekend

PIARC’s Island Magic 2018 returns to the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit this weekend. The 28th Island Magic will bring to a close the 150th Anniversary of Phillip Island and also the 90th Anniversary of the first Australian Grand Prix which was held on the Islands Road Circuit in 1928.

The iconic Ramada Resort 50K Plate Sports Sedans this year hosts both the National Sports Sedan Final and the Final Round of the 2018 Victorian Sports Sedan Championship on the world’s most picturesque and exciting circuit. What better way to round out a year than with 36 fast and fabulous Sports Sedans with rolling starts and V8 thunder for 50Ks of action dating back to the first such event in won in 1972 by Bryan Thompson in his V8 Torana.

Interest for this year’s event is so diverse with cars ranging from Baily’s Audi V8 monster to current National Title Holder Cetin’s Camaro, Lawson’s 2017 winning STI Subaru and Carosa’s diminutive and fast 1300cc Fiat pocket rocket.

PIARC’s long tradition of bumper fields of Historic Touring Cars excels with 40 re 1980’s Camaros, Mustangs, Toranas, Chargers. Minis, Cortinas and Capris shore to rattle some cages and get the nostalgia happening with a little Magic.

The Sports Cars back for a 14th consecutive year for the CUE 1 Hour Victorian Tourist Trophy, will see almost 30 exotics take to the grid with 7 Audis, 3 Lotii, 13 Porsches and a couple recently imported new 2B Sports cars in the Trofeo Lamborghini Huracan and Richard Bendell’s monstrous 7 Litre SIN R1 550 to go record hunting.

The Formula Vees with 6 from WA having a sea-change will have 30 cars on track whilst Formula Ford open wheelers also feature strongly with over 20 jousting. Together with an unusually small number of Improved Production Cars headed up by Paul Rule in the Torana SS hatchback and Ray Hislop in the simply fast Falcon we can expect some great racing with Porsche 944s helping keep up the Sports Car numbers

Don’t miss this event as Island Magic again promises to be a great way for both competitors and spectators to finish up a years racing at Australia’s most picturesque and challenging race circuit.

Affordable admission to great motorsport is a budget friendly $30.00 for a weekend pass and accompanied kids under 16 are admitted free.
