A smorgasbord of cars and categories will get the CAMS Victorian State Circuit Racing Championships 2015 gets under way at Phillip Island on April 18-19.

The premier Australian State Championship Series commences its 18th year as a championship at Australia’s Most Picturesque Circuit for the seventh consecutive year and has proved a winning formula for the series in attracting spectators and interest.

All the usual and exciting state categories including Improved Production ,Formula Ford, Formula Ford 1600, Formula Vee, HQ Holdens, MGs, Sports Sedans, Sports Cars, Porsche 944, Saloon Cars BMWs and Historic Touring Cars.

With an expected entry of over 200 cars, action a plenty is assured from 9.00am to 5.00 pm daily, with an Adults weekend pass only $30.00 and kids under 16 admitted free.

This meeting is the first of 5 race meetings being promoted by PIARC (Phillip Island Auto Racing Club) in 2015, and one of 6 for the year with Club involvement.

PIARC spokesman Geoff Bull says the club is hopeful that the level of entries for Formula Ford / Formula Ford 1600 will be boosted by the opportunity to gain some extra miles on the Island Circuit prior to their National Series Round at the Shannons Nationals on May 23 / 24.

An additional boost for that event will be the opening of the National Formula Ford series to all cars produced after 1990 allowing some very fast Formula Ford 1600 machines that were precluded under last year’s regulations. Already taking advantage of this is “The Racing Mum” Leanne Tander who has entered her 1994 Stealth in this state round and is sure to be amongst the quickest 1600 Kent cars and in amongst the overall leaders.

There is also hoped to be a free display of HQ Club Road Cars in the public area over the course of the weekend to provide additional entertainment and nostalgia.

It is also the first of the 4 round Victorian State Circuit Racing Championships being conducted at both Phillip Island and Sandown throughout the year.
